Scholarship Recipients 2019

2019 Scholarship Recipients

On May 3, 2019, Cindy and I awarded our third set of scholarships from the Griffin Moody Scholarship Fund.  We are very proud and excited to announce that Alex O’Brien and Sean Soudrette are this year’s winners!  This year we had 22 students apply for our scholarship, and as always, it was very difficult to narrow that list down to the final eight that we interviewed.  Then, the process became even more difficult as we interviewed the final eight students, and chose Alex and Sean.  Both Alex and Sean are outstanding students and individuals, as you can read below.  We are most proud and happy to be able to help them pursue their dreams of not only attending college, but thriving and becoming successful citizens.  As before, Cindy and I think Griffin would be very pleased with our selection of Alex and Sean.

Alex O’Brien

Alex was a member of the National Honor Society, and was enrolled in the Nease IB program.  She also participated in the International Thespian Society, holding many positions of leadership.  She acted and starred in several plays over her Nease career, including the lead role in “Christine” and supporting lead in “Betty”.  Alex was also a member of the Nease choir for two years, singing at events in Epcot, Carnegie Hall, and for local retired veterans.  Alex also played on the Nease volleyball team.

Alex will be attending Florida State University in the fall, where she plans to pursue a political science degree.

Sean Soudrette

Sean was a member of the National Honor Society, and a four-year member of the Nease Junior ROTC program.  As part of the NJROTC program, Sean held positions of leadership including Marksmanship Team Commanding Officer and Bravo Company Executive Officer.  He was also a member of the Color Guard for three years, and participated in Color Guard ceremonies throughout the community over the last few years.  Sean also played on the Nease Varsity Tennis team, earning a varsity letter in his Junior and Senior years.  Sean was also very active in the youth group at St. John Paul II Catholic Church.

Sean will be attending Auburn University in the fall, where he plans to pursue a degree in Engineering.
