Scholarship Recipients 2018

2018 Scholarship Recipients

On May 3, 2018, Cindy and I awarded our second set of scholarships from the Griffin Moody Scholarship Fund.  We are very proud and excited to announce that Constance Oswald and Marc Moreira are this year’s winners!  This year we had 24 students apply for our scholarship, and as always, it was very difficult to narrow that list down to the final eight that we interviewed.  Then, the process became even more difficult as we interviewed the final eight students, and finally chose Constance and Marc.  Both Constance and Marc are outstanding students and individuals, as you can read below.  We are most proud and happy to be able to help them pursue their dreams of not only attending college, but thriving and becoming successful citizens.  As before, Cindy and I think Griffin would be very pleased with our selection of Constance and Marc.

Constance Oswald

Constance was a member of the National Honor Society, and ranked at the top of her class academically.  She was a four-year member of the nationally ranked Nease JROTC program.  She held many positions during her JROTC career, including Supply CPO, Academics Team XO , Public Affairs XO, Battalion Executive Commanding Officer, and finally Battalion Commander during her senior year, the highest rank in the program.  She was also a three-year member of the Nease Cross Country track team, and was team captain in her junior and senior years.  Constance was a member of the Nease Student Council (student body Vice-President), the Junior Ladies, Senior Women, and Link Crew.  She also amassed several hundred volunteer hours over her high school career, helping with her church, veterans associations, and various community events.

Constance will be attending the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, CO in the fall, where she will follow her goal of becoming a pilot.

Marc Moreira

Marc was a member of the National Honor Society, the Math, English, and Science Honor Societies, and was President of the Hispanic National Honor Society.  HE was a three-year member of the Nease Varsity Tennis Team (Team Captain),  and received the Kelly Team Tennis Award several times for outstanding character and attitude.  Marc was also a 3-year member of the Nease concert band ensemble, and a two-year member of the Nease marching band and the Nease Open Percussion Ensemble, and received many medals at the district and state levels.  Marc also participated in the NYC Jazz Festival at Lincoln Center.  Marc amassed over 400 hours of community service working at his church, tutoring kids, and helping in various community projects.

Marc will be attending Colgate University in Hamilton, NY this fall, where he will pursue a double major in Neuroscience and Political Science.
