Scholarship Recipients 2022

2022 Scholarship Recipients

On May 2, 2022, we awarded two more scholarships to graduating Nease High School seniors. The recipients of this year’s Griffin Moody Scholarship are Kaitlyn Boggs and Daniel Mahoney. Kaitlyn and Daniel were selected after interviewing the eight finalists, and while all the finalists were very accomplished in their own right, we were most impressed with Kaitlyn and Daniel for their overall accomplishments both in and out of school, and their ambitions going forward. As with all of our recipients over the years, we’re confident Griffin would be most pleased with our selection of Kaitlyn and Daniel.

Kaitlyn Boggs

Kaitlyn completed her career at Nease as a four-year NJROTC cadet, holding numerous leadership positions, and winning numerous awards.  She excelled in NJROTC, as evidenced by her consistent rise in responsibility.  In 2019 she was Bravo Company Platoon Commander and Athletics Team Commander.  In 2020 she became Charlie Company Commander, as well as Assistant Drill Instructor. In 2021 she was the Basic Cadet Training Drill Instructor, Leadership Academy Adjutant, and worked her way up in 2022 to Battalion Executive Officer, and then Battalion Commander.  She also participated on the Nease Girls Track Team, (Javelin and Hurdles) and the Weightlifting Team, and various Honor Societies.  Away from school she worked various jobs and accumulated over 400 hours of community service.

Kaitlyn will be participating in the ROTC program at Louisiana State University.

Daniel Mahoney

Daniel was also a four-year NJROTC cadet.  He rose from Platoon Commander his freshman year, to Ordnance Commander and Company Executive Officer as a sophomore, to Teams Coordinator Executive Officer as a junior, to Company and Battalion Commander during his senior year.  All the while he participated on the Orienteering Team, the Drone Team, and the Armed Exhibition and Armed Basic Drill Teams.  Daniel participated on the Nease Cross Country team, and Boys State in Tallahassee, and was the Senior Class Vice President for student counsel.  Daniel was also very active in his church, San Juan Del Rio Catholic Church, forming the Catholic Sons of San Juan Del Rio, focusing on community service and outreach.

Daniel will be attending the US Merchant Marine Academy and hopes to one day fly jets for the Navy.
